RODERIC MCCANN COUNSELLING

Explore The Possibilities

Welcome to Roderic McCann Counselling. I understand that life’s challenges are unique and complex to all individuals. I am a BACP registered Counselling Professional serving the St Albans area. I’m here to help you find yourself and realise your full potential.

LEARN MORE ABOUT ME

I started my training in 2009 with an introduction to counselling course at Birkbeck, University of London. I completed another 4 years of Study over the next 6 years, while working full time within the corporate travel industry as a Team Leader/coach. During this time I volunteered as a CBT counsellor for a GP surgery and also as a bereavement counsellor for the City and East London Bereavement Service. I have learnt about the inner struggle that we all are going through and that the answers we need are inside us. Life's too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. Let me help you learn and develop ways to handle the issues that are affecting your life and find deeper understanding and awareness. Its good to be curious, so get in touch today to see what we can do for you.

PSYCHODYNAMIC COUNSELLING

What is psychodynamic psychotherapy? Psychodynamic psychotherapy tries to understand the reasons behind symptoms, emotional distress and relationship difficulties. It can help you understand how past experiences, current ways of thinking and relating and anxieties about the future are causing difficulties in your present life.

BEREAVEMENT COUNSELLING

One-to-one counselling provides a safe and confidential space to focus on the impact of your loss. During each session I will support you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment.
For many people, knowing that they can have a weekly space and time to talk about what has  happened, the impact for everyday life and also the future, is immensely helpful and reassuring.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY

CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is one of the most common treatments for a range of mental health problems, from anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD or schizophrenia.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST SESSION

  • Introductions
I will introduce myself and explaining how we will work together.

  • Assessment
I will ask you to ‘tell your story’. It’s important that you feel you’ve had the opportunity to tell me about what’s troubling you.

  • Contracting
I will explain the terms and conditions that I work to. This may be either a verbal agreement or a printed document for us both to sign.

This first session is important for making sure that you feel comfortable with me as your therapist and my way of working. If its not right for either of us, we can discuss this. Please know that this is completely normal sometimes and is part of the reason we have this initial session.

HOW DO I PAY FOR SESSIONS.

Payment is required 48 hours in advance of each session after the initial meeting.
